American Idol ,,,,do you watch it ?

Post by GOPAPA »

And if so whats your take on it ?

My wife and I have watched it since its beginning and feel that for some who make it to the top contestants get a chance that they would never have gotten if it were not for the American Idol.

It is true that the show is manipulated by the way they pick the contestants and how they divide them into groups so to get who they want voted in by us ,,but over all it's a way for some to get a dream to come true ..

Now , my gripe is that Simon who runs the show and who has all the power to decide who is worthy of going on to the next level ,,,is bias about country music. and therefore it is hard for anyone to get past him singing country..

last night was no different .. if you watched the show ,,then you will know what I am talking about..

For the sake of a discussion on this and to keep it to opinions of the shows greatness or failures ,,no politics please . LD

idol or idle?

the women in my house think this show is the bees-knees. frankly, if the story line does not conclude during today's session, i am not watching the show. i never know when i will have the time to sit down in front of the boob tube again...so serials and concluded-at-a-later-date things interest me little.

and, isn't the grand finale of this particular show during prime driving season? (may-september)? who has time for TV then?

Mike ,,forgive me ,,but I am not sure what you mean by bees-knees ? I looked it up and this what I got ,,so if it isn't what you meant ,,would you enlighten me ? LD

One possible connection between the phrase(bees knees) and an actual bee relates to Bee Jackson. Ms. Jackson was a dancer in 1920s New York and is credited with introducing the dance to Broadway in February, 1924, when she appeared at the Silver Slipper nightclub. She went on to become the World Champion Charleston dancer and was quite celebrated at the time.

I watch the glare in my computer screen while listening to my headphones! I sing bad enough! Enjoy! :D But in all fairness, the wife and daughter think its great! 8) Mikes terminology is foreign to me too, we would just say Cool Beans.

I'm surprised that you've never heard that expression LD. I thought everyone our age would remember it. It was just a little before our time, it's true, but I can remember my Mom using it. But then, I seem to recall Mike using "23 skidoo" also. Not bad, for a whipper-snapper.

aww, cheeze LD. now you sound just like my kids. "that must be old-talk, cuz you're old and you're the only one that understands it."

http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/the-bees-knees.html

though i prefer to use it as meaning the best of the best. i dunn recall using "23-skidoo" BUT... i do resemble that remark.

and all of this is much better discussion than ANYTHING that appeared on television since they took GET SMART off the air.

I'm afraid I don't get into any of these talent/reality shows that have swamped the airwaves lately.

I'm sorry, but if its not sports or on PBS it has little appeal for me. However, my wife and kids enjoy the heck out of it.

Hey LD,
You arent alone,I am a closet Idol watcher. As my daughter gets older(16),I find we dont do as many things together as in the past.It is our ''tradition'' to watch Idol when it is on.I dont enjoy it nearly as much as in the early years, some of it seems kind of staged for drama. But I love sitting with Heather and rating the performances. :D
