I'm still struggling with deciding what engine to put into this '83 I have. I'm looking for an estimate of the HP that a 2 liter engine with ported inlet and exhaust and shaped combustion chambers (Typical of Jon Logan's work), big valves, stock cams, Stock FI, adjustable cam wheels and a generally non restrictive 2" exhaust system would make.

using the larger valves on a stock engine is pretty much a waste of money and time. You're not increasing the rpm range so you never get into the rpm where they will have an effect. You're looking at a 100-110 hp depending what exhaust system you use. The wrong system will hurt your midrange torque

A totally stock 2L FI car was rated at 102 from the factory. Have you considered turbo charging? With an aftermarket FI system like Megasquirt, etc., and a turbo set up, should easily be able to get into the 140-160 range. This setup is often much less expensive than tearing the engine apart.

Well darn, that will teach me to post when tired. I was so careful to specify stock cams etc that I forgot to include the HC pistons. The CR would be 10:1.
Not a stock engine at all. For me the real choice is between FI or dual IDF with a 40:80 intake cam (stock exhaust). OK let's pose the question this way:
What HP and what dirvability wold youu expect fromm these 2 engines:
1) HC pistons target CR 10:1
stock cams with adjustable cam wheels
Head - chambers, intake, exhaust porting
Big valves
lightened flywheel
balanced
Stock FI (better air cleaner?)
Free flowing 2" exhaust

40:80 intake cam with stock exhaust cam - adjustable cam wheels
head - chambers, intake, exhaust porting

Dual 40 IDF on waffle manifold

I have the the block, pistons and the rest of the lower end built up and ready to slap a head on and install in the '83 when it is road worthy. I have dual IDF on the '75. I have a (needs to be cleaned up) stock FI from the '83. So which way to top off the engine? Door #1 or door #2.

you won't have good results attempting to run that combo with the stock FI system

I'm guessing that the porting and valves are what makes youu say that it will not be good with stock FI.

that 40/80 cam is the elephant in the engine room with stock FI. Your FI system really doesn't flow enough to raise the rpm range either, so porting and large valves won't be very effective. You need to use either a programable FI system with higher flow injectors and more airflow or run carbs. Then your head work and cams will pay off if you use an effective exhaust system
