Gas Vapor Filter cleaning

Post by OaklandSpider »

All...
is it necessary to service the gas vapor filter?
I'm replacing some hoses and figured I'd have a look at it while the hoses were off...
does it need servicing?
is there a tried and true method opf cleaning it?
it seems to be sealed...not entirely sure what to do with it (or if I need to do anything...)
all comments welcome...

the vapor cannister should have charcoal in it, which is purged of vapors when the engine starts. There should be a filter on the bottom of it that is replaceable. For the cannister to get purged properly, it needs fresh air sucked through the filter. If the cannister has ever become fuel flooded, it needs to be replaced

Mark...
the filter at the bottom looks pretty old/caked with debris...how do I get to it?
what size/type of filter should I use to replace it?
Thanks...

I believe all of the round filters are the same size between mfgs. The filter is just a soft filter, so it can be pulled out through the plastic grid in the bottom of the cannister

"what size/type of filter should I use to replace it?"

It should be the same material as some PCV filters, however that material is "very similar" to white 3M scotchbrite pads.
