75 engine in a 78 body

Post by mocbaar83 »

My 1975 124 pinen parts car is strong like bull but my shiny 1978 124 has a bum ticker. I am getting ready to swap the engine/trans from one car to the other and was wondering if there was something that I was overlooking.

The only differences that I have found so far are as follows:

1978 1975
Mech fuel pump electric fuel pump
Oil pres. Idiot light sweet oil pressure gage
Regular cam pulleys exhaust pulley has the pump drive (thick pulley)
Internally regulated alt. externally reg alt
About 1” taller than 75’
Also the oil pans look slightly different

I want to lower the car with performance springs and steal the brand new top off of the old 75’.

Am I forgetting anything/walking into a trap?

both cars should have 1800 motors, so the height should be the same. Sounds like one of them has already been swapped for something else

It might be a good idea to make sure you have an 1800 in the 78. Right above the oil filter housing should be an engine serial number stamped into the block.

yes, i should have mentioned that they are both 1800cc and both have 32adfa carbs but with different linkages. Thanks for the confirmation!
