Distributor and TDC and number 1 firing position

Post by psg »

Rebuilding the 1800cc engine and it is time to install the distributor. When I put the T belt on I got the number 1 piston in the TDC position and the valves closed. The book says that I need to get the cam shaft lobes in the firing position and then insert the distributor so the points are properly set. The book says the cam lobes should be up but any help to put it in practical words and the 1,2,3 step format is deeply appreciated. psg

with 1 at tdc, set the cam gear indicators to line up with the casting mark on the top of the cam tower. Then the dist should fire on #4

What is the position of the distributor? Do I orient the rotor to line up with the number four lead? I have the marks on the cam wheels and the pointers lined up. paul
