Timing Should rotor be at #1 Position
Timing Should rotor be at #1 Position
I have had my head resurfaced and the timing marks on the cam shafts line up at one of the points of the marker that sits on the thermostat housing, but the marker has only one point that points to the intake side of the motor. In the haynes manuel it shows to points but on both my spare motor and the motor in the car they both only have one pointer? Also Should the rotor ibe pointing at the Number 1 point in the distributer? Any help would be much appreciated!
Re: Timing Should rotor be at #1 Position
getta nuther pointer with both points. you're gonna want it sooner or later anyway.
yes, rotor to #1 contact on dizzy cap.

Re: Timing Should rotor be at #1 Position
There should be a pointer for the intake side and another pointer for the exhaust side. Also, if you look at the back side of the pulleys, the same point should coincide with a seam in the cam tower casting (though I have seen cam towers that don't have this seam). The seam in the cam tower is the more accurate reference point, since the pointer has a little wiggle room in the way that it is mounted, and could also be bent.
The dizzy should be pointed to #4 when all the timing belt marks are zeroed in, not #1. Be sure to look inside the cap to determine exactly where the #4 contact is -- it won't be at the same place as the wire exits on the outside of the cap.
