Hey – from Ottawa
I’ve been following the activity on this forum for a while and decided to join this fine group of Spider enthusiasts. My name is Peter and I live in Manotick, Ontario, which is part of the City of Ottawa. I bought my Spider new in August 1978 and have owned it ever since – I sometimes call it my second-born child. I have been amazed and gratified to see the continuing stream of new Spider owners joining this forum and FLU over this winter. I believe the enthusiasm for these great cars is growing more than ever, as well it should.
Of course, I already know a number of you from FLU and I look forward to getting to know everyone else. My FLU friends will recognize my screen name – “kilrwail†– which is the nickname and vanity plate on my 1977 Porsche 911, derived from both its engine note and the whale tail spoiler. I have never named my Spider, but it is still my favourite on a twisty road in a sunny, cool evening with the top down. The car is essentially bone stock, with the exception of a modern stereo and twin speakers where the back seat was originally located. I confess to having taken my two older boys for rides in that seat when they were very young in the ‘80’s and they loved it. The oldest son took the car on his honeymoon in 2002 and I still have two more boys to send off in the same fashion.
Many of you are tackling jobs on your cars that I’ve never had to do, but I will help with other questions if I can. And I may ask for help from time to time. If you ever want to know what a stock ’78 looks like in a particular area, just ask away. Here’s a sample picture – there are several more in the same Photobucket album.

Re: Hey – from Ottawa
Hello Peter, welcome aboard. I'm a fellow FLU member, but being so far west I haven't met any others except those in the So Cal area, just now forming a local chapter. It's always neat to hear from you owners who have had their car since it was new. I recognize the appreciation and dedication to the marque that it implies.
Thanks for the picture, very nice looking car. (Great color btw)

Hey Peter, I'll check out the ICCO.
Were you in the Glebe last fall? I was parked right accross Bank street from a red spider looking an aweful lot like yours.

Adam - It's possible. I have been known to go to the Glebe, but not often. I wouldn't normally park on Bank, though. There are a couple of other red Spiders in town. Send an e-mail to info@italiancarclub.ca - Julie or Delio or Jim or Jeff will fix you up. Watch the web site for upcoming events - probably starting with Italian week in June. Here are three from last year

Hey Peter,
Do you know any good fiat mechanics in Ottawa? I need to get my head gasket done. I've been to Frank's but he was expensive!
Thanks,
Adam
