intake manifold
intake manifold
On my '78 spider 1800 on the intake manifold on the top side between the carb and cam housing is a valve/switch(?) that has two hose outlets. Should both outlets be connected? When I got the car (not running) only the forward outlet was connected. psg

Re: intake manifold
Do you have emissions testing in your state? If not, it does not need to be connected.
Re: intake manifold
No, but the fellow I talked with said it all needed to appear as though it was in tact. So I am thinking I either need to repair the part to some level or make it appear as though it never existed....
Re: intake manifold
I have two posts and just realized I answered thinking of the other one. I am not so concerned about this being a part of the smog equipment but if it is an open point and will cause a vacuum problem. I don't know what this part does. psg

Re: intake manifold
The rear opening on that fitting should be connected with a hose to a T joint in the hose that runs from the EGR to the forward electrovalve on the left side of the engine compartment.

Re: intake manifold
The item that those hoses are plugged into is a thermo switch. You have vacuum on one side (the "nozzle" on the carb) and the other side as shown in this case goes to the EGR system. At a certain temperature the switch opens and lets the vacuum through. If you don't have the EGR or if there are not any vacuum lines connected to the switch then you can forget about it.
Re: intake manifold
as stated already, it's the egr thermal switch. It gets ported vacuum on one side, the other connects to the egr valve. I haven't seen one of those that works in over a decade
Re: intake manifold
IMO - i would worry more about what constitutes State rules on emission equipment. "the fellow i talked with" does not sound like an official conversation.
if indeed you need only to look stock, removal of emission equipment in a certain manner may be your answer.
on the other hand, if it needs to function, you may be wasting time making things look like they are functioning.

This is what I was looking for. I am getting closer. "the guy" that I was talking with is a tech at an inspection station. thanks for the pictures... psg
