oxygen sensor problems, cant understand wiring diagram

Ok so I replaced the 02 sensor, problem is someone cut the wire from the ecu, according to the diagrams this is a shielded cable, however both connect into the ecu the core on 24 on the ecu and the shielded one on 23 on the ecu, now on the o2 sensor i have only has one wire, I am not sure where the other one would go or if it is just a ground, the wiring diagram is hard to make out what the symbol is. Any help would be great! I am using the wiring diagram linked below on page 10.

if you're running a new wire, connect it to 24. The shield is to ensure you don't get a false signal from a circuit running parallel. I've never seen that happen, though it is possible
