help... i need some assistance in getting my new computer (Vista) and a fresh install of Outlook '03 to upload my backed up data from the old machine (XP) and Outlook '03. the contacts are vital, and the historical communication is that important as well.

Just so I am clear; your old machine was running XP. Your new machine is running Vista. You have information from your old machine backed up and would like to transfer that information to your new Vista machine. Is this correct?
Couple of additional questions... Is your old machine still up & running? When you backed up your old machine, did you backup the entire machine or just the data? What software did you use to backup the old data/machine?

Mike, did you try moving the Outlook.pst file ( which is the MS Outlook Post Office file ) from the old machine to the new, putting it in the same directory ( folder) ?

eventually, i did cut copy paste that file.
knowing the name of the file was a huge obstacle, then knowing where it was in the sub-sub-sub-sub-sub directory (YEAsh)
plus Vista is not the same as XP when assigning locations for programs or data.
So, knowing where to put the copied file was the final hurdle to overcome.
not bad for a 50 something guy. with lots of help and coaching, i finally got the email up and running last night. plus, the new surround sound speakers sound superb. tonight i "GET" to reload the tax accounting software, and the client data files. that should be fun.
