Hello from PA

Post by spider113 »

Hello everyone,

Just registered and wanted to greet all the Fiat loyal out there. I am the very proud protector of an 81' Spider 50th anniversary number 113. She is an awesome example of what a car can be if cared for by the right person. I purchased this car from a gentleman out west who purchased it almost new, within 6 months of the original sale. I have every record, including the original owners 1 month check-up. I am appreciative of all he did to preserve this car and it's heritage. She was his wife's daily driver, but it became her baby very quickly. The car only has 54K miles on it.

The Fiat 2000 Spider 50th Anniversary holds a special place in my memories. I grew up in Erie, PA. It is a city, that in 1980, had a Fiat dealership. I was a senior in high school and knew the general manager of the dealership. I sat in the only 50th they were to get in and fell in love. I said "I will have one of these some day", but the price of the car rivaled the new Cadillacs he had in the showroom. I knew I had to wait a while for that dream to become a reality. Then, in 1988, I bought my first Anniversary Spider from a small used car dealer in Baton Rouge LA. The dealer did not appreciate the significance of the car and I got lucky on the price. I think the serial number was in the 300's, but I don't remember. It had 130K on it but it looked pretty good. The car went with a divorce and I have wanted one ever since.

That was not my first experience with a Fiat. My dad and mom purchased a 1967 Fiat 1500 Cabriolet. I spent my formative years riding in, and repairing that car. When the car finally broke in two in 1982, my dad had it hauled away for scrap! It had 24,000 tame miles on it!!! What a shame.

Sorry for the trip down memory lane, but I have loved these cars since I was 4 years old.
Hello again everyone. Pictures will follow as soon as the snow is gone and the cover is off!!!

Hello from a former Pennsylvanian,

I think you'll find that many Fiatsi here have owned one of these great cars in their past, myself included. I hope you get a chance to meet some other Spider owners, as part of the fun is swapping stories about maintenance, upgrades, etc. There's a national get-together in Phila. later this summer, and it seems there are many Spider owners across the lake. Welcome!

Welcome to the forum, from just a little further north. I too have loved these cars for forty years, but I wasn't 4 years old when it started! Hope to see you at FFO in Valley Forge. :)

Welcome to the forum and hello from N.E. Ohio! You said you grew up in Erie but don't specify where you are now (unless I missed it). I live only about 90 minutes from Erie. Sounds like you found quite a special Spider. Congrats on a great find.
