Part of my "haul"
It's pretty rusted, so I figure I'd ask anyway if it's worth salvaging the crank, rods. pistons or anything.

I also have another motor in about the same shape, still attached to the other tranny that is for sale as well.
A shame he didn't take care of them.

The rods and crank could most likely be reconditioned, but I don't think that they are rare enough to make it worth while. Sad to say but probabily best used as scrap metal. :(

you could bolt everyting external and salvage some screws and bolts maybe , you never know when you snap one off

It never hurts to have a spare rod or piston in case something happens to one of yours. Pistons are usually sold in sets and can be pricy. Getting the piston out will be the hard part since the rings are probably rust welded to the cylinder bores.
