Opinion: 1800 Motor $200?

Post by driftandrally616 »

I need opinions, I have a '79 with the stock carburetor crap and intake manifold. I'm looking to buy a single plane intake from an 1800 and a 32/36 DFEV, and possibly an 1800 head. Recently, on craigslist, I came upon this '81 parts car that for some reason has a 132AC1 engine with carburetor. Not sure about the specifics on this engine, but the guy is offering it for $200. I'm not quite sure how cheap an intake is, and I know the carb is expensive about $275, which is more than that engine. My question is, is it worth the money to have a spare motor to pick parts from? Thanks, any directions to cheap parts is welcome.

Check against the engine type or serial no. Sounds like a 1592cc motor. If it has the head, then the 1592 head can go on a 2L block for a compression increase. Also the 1592 head will be cleaner than a 1800 head due to the lack of emissions ports.

when i can get my hands on a 1800 intake, i generally ask $50 plus shipping, with the buyer doing all of the degreasing and cleaning. i hear that recently they've been going for about $75 plus shipping on Ebay.

Jon Logan (Midwest 124) rebuilds 1800 heads for guys like us that are trying to up-performance our two litre engines. He says the core charge on the head is worth $75, plus shipping.

i doubt if you will find many used 32/36 carburetors.

untouched, is that 1800 head worth the difference? absent the head and intake, is that engine of any further value to you? it very well may be worth $200 to someone else that wants to rebuild it and set it in his small bump Spider. but, if you only want the head and intake, i don't see $200.00 in value to you.

Do you have the complete engine number?
If the number is (132AC1.000) its probably a European 1800cc (84 x 79.2) with 118hp (5-spd)

I wasn't expecting to find any 32/36 DFEV's used, but I was going to buy the engine to use for the head, intake, and any other spare parts I might find myself wanting...But I'm not sure if I have a place to store the engine. MBouse, did you mean that it is at least $75 for a head? Because usually the core charge is in addition to the price, correct? But here's what my calculations have resulted:

- 32/36 DFEV: $269.95 on WeberCarbsDirect
- 1800 Intake Manifold: $60 possibly
- 1800 Head: $75?
_____________________
$400

or

- 1800 Engine: $200
- incl. intake manifold + head
- 32/36 DFEV: $269.95
______________________
$470 - Along with the benefit of extra parts, I need an oil pan, and thermostat...I still don't know.

Well, I tried to e-mail the seller, and craigslist kept sending me a message back telling me the message was undeliverable, so the seller must have put in an invalid e-mail or something. Oh well, if anyone has an 1800 intake for cheap, or a head for cheap, let me know. Thanks guys
