nothing to do with the budget, merely improving fuel mileage which decreases the demand for oil. If we use less oil, we don't have to create so many wars to obtain it, thereby saving billions of dollars. Hey, it is about the budget!

Its to assist in ensuring that even fewer people take any responsibility for yet another minor activity.

As enthusiasts we take great pride in knowing about, caring for and performing all of the little tasks that allow a vehicle to go down the road safely and maximizing the capability of our cars.

Most people expect to turn a key after seating their double latte half caff, have the automatic climate control bring the interior up to the same temperature as the home they just left and go down the road without a care until the low fuel light shines.

Having to actually walk around the car and understand the subtle bulge difference on a radial tire of one properly inflated and one that is at 10 psi is beyond the interest or ability level of the average owner. Much less checking the oil or any other base maintenance task. What happened to RTFM? Isn't this one of the many simple tasks they espouse? Or how about Driver's Education, didn't any of these driver's learn anything?

Legislating yet another redundant system to get what should be done by an attentive, involved and informed owner is yet another example of a lazy populace having to be forced into doing what they are supposed to do by not having to do it directly themselves, rather than just knowing what they should be doing and just doing it.

Own it people! Jeez.

Ok there must be a way off this soapbox somewhere...
