I haven't found this question asked yet.

My car won't start...never has so I am going through the process of elimination. I have fuel thru to the carb float bowl. When I pump the accelerator a couple of times I do not get the "squirt" into the carb. I have cleaned the passages from the bowl and when I blow air through the jets it does push gas into the carb. Any thoughts? psg

Sounds like you need a new diaphragm to me. if you pour a little gas down the carb will it start then?
1978 Spyder 1800 make that 2L! Finally making real progress!

I presume you mean the diaphragm for the accel. pump. The answer to your second question is no. Gas straight into the carb does not make a difference. I have an earlier post that I have not been able to solve. I have spark to the plugs and the marks line up as well as the rotor on the number 4 plug but nothing happens. The only thing I have not checked is cylinder pressure. psg

for the engine to start, you need compression, fuel and spark at the correct time

I had almost the same problem and found that my distributor cap was mounted a half turn wrong and that gave me ignition 4-2-1-3 instead of 1-3-4-2 that where stamped on the cap, once I turned the cap the engine started right away.
During that time I had spark, gas and compression but the engine was complete dead.
I don’t know if this is the case for you but check it just in case.
