When I first bought my Spider a few years back, it was amazing to me how many people did not know what Fiat was (even within folks who are over the age of 30). Well, one nice thing in all of this is that they know now. I love driving to the local cruise-in and asking the Mopar guys how they like their Fiats. The look I usually get is just priceless.

the chrysler dealer here in Coldwater was quietly indignant as he told me that Fiat would not be bringing cars to the USA. they were only going to trade technology with Chrysler. I sat calmly with a smirk on my face wondering what technology the now bankrupt Chrysler had to offer... and wearing my bright red "FIAT TO THE RESCUE" T-shirt in his office.

talk about priceless!

if they are still open, i intend to go back in a month or so and ask if i can place an order for a 500, which is about 200 more than a Chrylser 300, right?

attitudes die hard.

I just don't know why Fiat can't make a comeback to the US. I think they will appeal to the younger rice burner crowd, as well as the tree huggers and old Fiat farts like us.

I stopped by a Chsyler dealer here in Houston this afternoon and told him I wanted to get on his list for a 500 Abarth SS. I had to get to the manager before anyone knew what I was taslking about, and he said he didn't know if he could take a list or advanced orders. I had the spider with me, and afterI told him about the 500 and we chatted about FIATS for a bit, he and about 6 salesmen went out and we stood around the spider talking about FIATS, particualrly old ones. They all seemed pretty excited, and NONE had ever seen a FIAT live. As I was talking to them, I think I got a bit of an insight as to one reason perhaps that Chrysler is on the ropes. Of the 6 guys there, not one of them understodd anything but the very basics about cars. Oh well, hope the deal goes through and we see increased interest in our cars and the marque.

Sounds like a done deal, except that there is a kink in the plan. Several bond holders are appealing the plan, and that might put a halt for now, to the proceedings.

I thought they backed off. Oh well, our Pres will brow beat them until they back down.

Jeff, I hope part of the dealer network for Fiat will include training for the salespeople. Nothing's worse than asking a salesman a question about the product they're selling and they have no knowledge of it.

You can imagine how the news cast in Detroit are right now. 24/7 Auto interviews and reports. I dont even know if there is anything going on in the rest of the world. They filed right after the judge ruled that Chrysler could go ahead with the sale to FIAT. Its big news here, along with the long awaited bankruptcy of GM.

Oh yah, and the Red Wings on their way to winning another Stanley Cup.
Shout out to Orlando for doing away with the James Gang in Cleveland. Things are good in the world again.

That's right Pope, the world wants to see the Majic in the finals. Um, sure they do...

As a life-long Wings fan, though, I'd love to see another cup for them. Plus, there's nothing us folks in Cleveland love to see more than Pittsburgh teams going down in flames (except maybe the Wolverines).

Just to be clear, I absolutely wasn't ecpecting anything else in the way of a response today. I just wanted to stir up some interest in the cars. I'm sure the guys I was talking to were worried about their jobs, not some guy asking about a car they have never seen before. Sure hope it works out for the best. There are a lot of people's jobs riding on this deal. But in the meantime, I would encourage all of you to get aout to your local dealer and strat asking about the cars - just as someone on this forum suggested a few weeks ago.

Dont worry John, I still go to Put-In Bay.
You know that Cleveland is owned by a Detroiter. I went to shake LeBrons hand after the game and he was gone, then I went to get an interview from him and he was running for the bus.

Too many childish antics on the bench...cant win till he grows up!

Not much going on really, Korea have a handfull of nukes to play with, :( famine in the African sub continent, :( economic squeeze in China, :( fraud exposure for Brittains' MPs - lovely jubbly - Brown is going to reshuffle the Cabinet but the way things are going there wont be enough MPs to fill it - every cloud has a silver lining. :D Europe experiencing the start of a long heatwave, usual problems that brings - forest fires, water rationing, you know the kind of thing. :? Air France lost a plane yesterday over mid Atlantic - sadly no hope for survivers. :( And Ferrari are throwing their toys out of the pram and bitching because they haven't won any F1 races this year. Oh yes, and there's something about Fiat taking over yet another car manufacturer, can't remember which one.
Have I missed anything? No, don't think so.
Same old, same old.....
