Wasn't China & India listed as the having the highest demand for fossil fuel? I believe the 2 countries were kinda blamed for driving up international oil price last year. Now China owns Hummer!

well now the questions that are begging to be answered; will the Hummer still be built in the US? or will the whole plant move to China, thereby lowering production costs substantially. Will they still get GM motors, or Chinese motors?
Will the Chinese Hummers will be shipped back to the US and sold at WalMart? Will they produce them in both countries? When gas hits $3 again this summer, will they be able to sell any at any price? Will anyone care?

To be honest I've never like the Hummer behemoths and wished they stayed as a purely military vehicle only. These monstrosities should be banned from the regular roads and highways as well as several other huge SUV's and trucks.

Soon the Chinese will all be driving Hummers and we'll be driving tiny P.o.s. Chinese cars and mopeds. They way things are going I wouldn't be surprised.

why does "tiny" have to be paired with "pos"? I don't think I've ever seen a Hummer with more than one person in it. At 10mpg, does it make any sense at all?

I guess a Hummer makes sense if what you really want is a Hummer. Like a Fiat makes sense if youwant a fiat . . . or a Corvette . . . or a prius . . . or etc,. If the absolute bottom line were going to be economy, sustainability and lowering our carbon footprint we'd all be riding horses! All I know is that I LIKE small cars so a Hummer doesn't fit the bill for me.

As for "small pos", well, let'sjust kindly file that idea under "time to brush up on small cars". There are premium small cars available here now - like the Mini, Porsche 911, Focus RS, Audi A4, among others. Forget that 1974 Pinto - :P they stopped making them a long while ago!

Yeah, the Chinese make large POS cars too! But the Japanese started out that way as well. Difference is the Japanese didn't make kock-off copies of Mercedes and BMWs like the Chinese. I'm surprised they actually bought the brand rather than just copying it. Sadly, this will continue to be a trend. Tata (in India) already owns Jaguar and Land Rover. The Malaysians own Proton (popular in Europe).

Fact is the U.S. market for cars isn't all that attractive. It is saturated and not ever really going to grow. Add to that all of the various government mandated regulations and it is even less attractive. Why do you think Fiat has stayed away all these years? China and Asia in general is the real growth market, so it stands to reason more and more local (to China) car companies will be flourish. Like all companies, they will seek to expand beyond their own borders. This is inevitable. And while their cars are pretty much junk today, that will not be the case 10 years from now.

I thought we do that now with the Fiats and such at least that's what I've done with two Fiats already and still do.
