My engine has the spring loaded tensioner on the timing belt. How do I release the tension in order to get the belt off? I found lots of reference to removing it but not how to get the tension off. Seems silly that I can't figure this out.
Thanks,
Al

Re: Timing Belt Removal
Use a crowbar or large screwdrive to pry against the toothed side of the belt that wraps around the bearing. Push the bearing as far as it will travel, then lock down the bolt to hold it in place.

Thanks, but I must be dense, I don't get it. There is no bolt that will tighten and hold the tensioner back. I will try the the crowbar and try getting the belt off before I let the tension back on.
Thanks again,
Al

Re: Timing Belt Removal
You'll need to loosen 2 nuts: 1) the nut that the tensioner bracket pivots on, and 2) The nut in the center of the bearing.
Likewise, you'll need to tighten them to hold the tensioner away from the belt, and you need to tighten them again as part of the belt installation sequence. A workshop manual or owners manual is a good investment for these cars. It gives a good description of the maintenance needed to keep them running.

Thanks, I wrote that down on the list of things to remember when I put it back together.
I appreciate your help.
