Anybody know what this circuit does? (the pot marked "Weber"). I can't find any description in my Weber books.
There is an accelerator pump and linkage on the other side of the carb. Is this some additional enrichment device?
The engine idles better with this hose pinched off. Can I cap it permanently?

Do I warn you not to use that carb in an effort not to hurt anyones feelings? Or keep my yap closed and let you find out the hard way that the Weber 38DGS is the worst carb ever, especially for a 124. Two 38mm barrels opening up at the same time will cause you nothing but grief. Get a 32/36 DFEV and be happy. Sell that carb to the VW/Ford guys on Ebay.
Sorry I'll keep my mouth shut.

I've put a couple of those on cars, albeit performance motors, and have gotten great performance from them.

I do not know that carb, but it looks like either an auxillary accel pump as Mark said, or some sort of power valve. If car idle better with hose pluged, you can bet the diaphram under that cover has failed. Should not be any fuel in that hose.

so if Bernie wants to run 100% of the time with his shirt tail flapping in the breeze, this will make a great carb...otherwise, get something else?
my experience with a 32/36 DFEV on a two litre is superior, but not so with an 1800...needs some tweaking

Y'know, Mike, if tears aren't streaming out of both eyes, you're not going fast enough! (Or maybe, "You're not running lean enough )
I've had "experts" weigh in on both sides of the 38DGS/Fiat TC question. On the face of it, the 27mm venturis of this carb are a whole lot less than twin 40 IDFs at 28mm each. This carb is a big favorite of the BMW 2002 crowd. The Redline distributor claims he has them on everything from a 1.3L Suzuki to a 2.6L Jeep.
We'll get it right eventually, but like Ringo says, "It don't come easy". At least its running well enough on the mains to see you guys in Dixie
ps the mystery device is "a manifold-vacuum operated additional accelerator pump enrichment" according to Redline. Somebody give Mark a cigar.
