I took the head to the mechanic today and he said I need to have it milled. It looks like it has been milled before but we can't find any stamp marks. Is there any way to tell how much more can be milled off? Also, he suggested rounding the edges off. Does this make sense. Will that reduce the compression? So many questions, so little time.

Found a used (well worn) Clymer Manual so I have the torque sequence diagram.

I ordered my gaskets and timing belt from Vick today and should have them in time to put it back together this weekend.

What? Round the edges off what? I would run the deburr tool around the all of the edges but round them off, no! Did he tell you how flat the head was? or better yet did he show you. If not, take it some place else.

The head has some flaws and it is not within specs. I talked to the machinists this morning and he showed me what he is doing. No rounding.

I'm not sure,perhaps a member with more experience can chime in, but I was told the head thickness was measured from the bottom surface to the top of the headbolt seat. Somewheres there is a thickness spec and a min thickness. I have taken15 thou off(two surfacings) and no apparent problems.
