EGR valve problem

I have a 1979 Spider and I have been looking for weeks, and I can't find any autoparts stores that carry EGR valves. Can anyone lead me to a website or parts store that carry these?

Also, can anyone tell me the consequences of plugging the egr "ports" in the manifold and getting rid of the egr valve all together?

John, the first question is if you live in a state where you still have to do emissions testing? If not I would give consideration to finding an 1800 intake and new carb. By doing this you will improve performance and be able to get rid of the emissions stuff. Did this to mine several years ago and love it.

You can probably plug the EGR ports, but that old dual plane intake may not make it real happy. Do you think the valve is bad? Have you tried Vicks auto sports or IAP for the valve?

More questions than answers I guess but.....

John,
Are you sure EGR valve is bad?? From my point of view, you need the EGR valve. THe engine was designed with it, it ran well when new with it. EGR helps cool the combustion process, which reduces NO's. It also helps reduce pinging, pinging is bad news. If you so choose (and if it's legal) you can remove it, the car may cruise a little smoother, the full-throttle power will not change.
