The starter solenoid was kaput. Ace, I did take my old one apart to see if I could repair it, but the rear cap (bakelite?) was so brittle it broke in the process. So I've ordered a replacement. It should be in today and I'll have it back down on the ground to take an evening ride today, and a Sunday drive tomorrow.
Trey, while I'm waiting for the starter, it was up on jacks anyway so I'm cleaning up around the underside of the engine and tranny.
Mark, no way could I talk Krissy into the gear reduction starter. I've talked about her priorities before, you know; bills and groceries before the Fiat. How screwed up is that?
I went with the $54.99 rebuilt from Autozone. Time will tell if its quality will save me any money.

Ron, is your car like the F-1 racers that have the jacks built into the car? Press a button and wam, down come the jacks.
