Alernator

Post by parottthead »

I took my 81 spider for a short jaunt the other day and heard/felt something fall off. I looked under and around when I got home and didn't notice anything. I went back out later and felt something shaking, and upon inspection discovered that the mounting bolt for the alternator was missing. As I looked closer it appears that the alternator that I have doesn't fit the mounting bracket snugly. I bought a 5" bolt and used washers as spacers to get it tight. Is this normal for replacement alternators? The one I have on the car is a Bosch, but it was on it when I bought the car so I don't know it's history.

there are several different alternators that were used as oem. Some used spacers that fit into the case, others were insulated in rubber to stop vibration

I didn't have a spacer so I made one using stainless washers. Thanks for the info Mark!
