I was hoping some of you experts could help me out with some miscellaneous repairs on a 1980 Spider 2000 FI. I apologize for the number of questions but wanted to try and have everything addressed in a single post.
Here's a pic of the engine compartment with all of the issues numbered.
1. The auxiliary air Line is missing. Ron you noticed this in my other post so I'm assuming from your original comment about the car running rough on a cold start that replacing this line will fix the problem? I'm not sure how long the PO had it off. Would it have done any damage to the air flow system? And does anyone know what size/type of hose it needs to be replaced with?
2. The Water Hose from the engine to the controlled-by-pass thermostat (which looks like its missing also) is capped off. Is this bad? Should I replace the thermostat and the hoses?
3. I'm not entirely sure what this vacuum line is for? Its a clear hose that is also capped off. While the engine is running you can see the hose sucking air. Anyone know what its for?
4. Any ideas what this plugs into?
5. Just thought I'd show this one before someone commented on whether or not the brakes worked, they do, but not as good as they probably should. The brake reservoir must of cracked so the PO decided to putty it closed and only use half of it. There's only one line coming out of the reservoir then its been split with a "Y" connector into the master cylinder. I plan on replacing the reservoir with a new one. Does anyone know what size/type tubing comes from the reservoir to the master cylinder?
6. I'm assuming this is a sensor or some kind of control for the cooling system. Its still plugged in but the wire coming out of it has been cut. Is this a critical piece of equipment?
Thanks in advance for helping out this newbie mechanic.

Re: 1980 Spider 2000 - Misc Engine Issues
holy moly! The PO should be slapped upside da head!
1. no damage will occur, just no fast idle without the aar working
2. Either you have no thermostat, or an in-head unit has been installed
3. power brake booster hose, it uses reinforced hose so it won't collapse. My bet is the booster has a vacuum leak
4. O2 sensor connector
5. it can work, but much reduced fluid capacity.
6. coolant temp sensor-it's critical for FI operation

Re: 1980 Spider 2000 - Misc Engine Issues
Rick, I'm away from the house again this week, but here is a picture of the tube going into the AAR
The bend is a metal tube.
The other side goes into the front of the intake plenum right by the cold start injector.
I'm amazed that your car runs at all! If the cobbed up bypasses in the engine bay are any indication, I'd hate to see what the wiring for the FI system is like. I guess it's just a good example of how bullet proof our Bosch L-jet system is!
Good old (OLD!) Mark; nice explanations.

Mark and Ron thanks for the help guys.
Anyone know of a resource for all of the vacuum and brake hose specs (sizes) on a 1980 Spider 2000 FI?

not many vacuum hoses on an FI car, for brake hoses are you asking about the two hoses from the reservoir to mc?
Re: 1980 Spider 2000 - Misc Engine Issues
Mark, yes the two coming off of the reservoir.

When I replaced my MC I used 5/16" FI fuel line. It has a liner that is impervious to brake fluid. The hose that has a braided cover that's available (can't remember which vendor) is blue and I didn't want that. The only vacuum line that I can think of on our cars is the one for the vacuum advance. I'm not home to check though. It goes from the intake plenum under the throttle spring over to the vacuum module on the dist. The O2 sensors come with a wire that connects to your wire #4, they're pretty inexpensive and FIAT recommends they be changed every 30,0000 miles. In your case, I'm suprised the warning light on the dash isn't reminding you. it may be disabled.
Mark: I don't believe you feel 220, I'd guess you're not wired for 220!

the brake hoses are 5/16, and I like the braided blue hose
vacuum hoses should be present for vac adv, evap cannister, fuel pressure regulator;
