I have this engine # in my 1978 124 Spider which I cannot match with anyone's list. Can anyone help out?
It is located on a stamped, circular plug that is above the oil filter on the driver's side that looks like an alternate location for the distributor.

Thanks!

Re: Help with Engine #
That is the part number for the plug, not the engine. The engine number will be stamped into a flat area on the block itself just below that part. The flat area is just to the right of the oil filter mounting and below the dip stick where it goes into the block.

Are you certain? I received this link from another site which lists that as the engine part (A German site, apparently). I am still looking for a seperate one that you described...
