Are the auto transmissions in these cars relaible? What's the advantage/disadvantage to buying an auto trans 2000?

they are reliable, it's a GM TH180. Advantages are; no clutch issues, great commuter car for rush hour traffic. Disadvantages are; some loss of performance, some loss of sports car experience, more difficult to resell

My 79 is actually the third different car I have had with this transmission (as much as I hate to admit it, I had two different Chevettes with this transmission in them) and have never had the slightest problem with any of them. I particularly like the auto for my wife. Saves me a great deal of time adjusting and replacing clutches.

Didn't I say I hated to admit it? Let's be honest....sometimes you've got to do what you've got to do (I was a 19 year old married man, and cost and practicality have to rule the roost sometimes) and we've had tremendous luck with the Chevrolets. We have, in my family, had a thing for unique vehicles however. My first car (which I still have) was a 73 VW Thing. We have the 64 Vespa, we have a Jaguar XK140, we have a 48 Plymouth, we have a 41 Ford, we have the Fiat. Gimme a break on the Chevettes, will ya?
