Before I start, I just want to say this is a great website and I have learned so much over the last couple of months about my car and I want to thank everyone that has helped me so far. I have read over the website forums and maintenance books for my car trying to figure out what is wrong....and... I am stuck.
The car starts and idles good. However, (out of gear or in gear) when I step on the gas to goose it, the car wants to shut down and the carb makes a sound like air rushing in or out the carburetor. Background information: The car is a 1971 Fiat spider 1.6L. I have drain the gas tank, flushed the gas lines, new fuel, new fuel pump, new fuel filter, new accelerator pump and cleaned the carburetor. I also checked for vacuum leaks around the carb and hoses, none found. I reset the carb to factory setting (idle screw 1 1/2 turns in on contact and the fuel mixture screw 2 turns outs out). I then adjusted the fuel mixture screw by turning it in until the engine almost shut off...then I backed the fuel mixture screw out until the car smoothed out (1 1/2 turns)
No luck...same problem the engine wants to shut off when I step on the gas. The original carburetor on the car was a 28/36 DHSA2 (primary main jet 1.25 / secondary main jet 1.55) The PO replaced the original carburetor with what is on the car now 32/36/DFAV (primary jet 1.37 / secondary main jet 1.40). I decided to switch the jets in the new carb with the ones from the original carb just to see if that would help. Still no luck...I have the same problem.
I have called all the import garages in town and nobody knows anything about fiat spiders or wants to really look at it. If anyone one can help with my problem I would be very grateful.

Engine cuts out
Re: Engine cuts out
Hey offshore
Sounds like its on the accelerator pump side still have you taken out the jets and blown them thru with a
air compressor ? sometimes it only takes a small deposit or spec of junk to clog the jet .
Take a look down the carb with the engine off use your hand to push the throttle linkage up fully and see
if both butterflys are opening and the accerator is pumping gas into the venturies . Now i am assuming
this carb isn't vacum secondaries if it is then you'll need to try this while the car is running .
When you said you cleaned the carb did you acid dip it ? and blow everything out ?

Both butterflys are opening and the accerator is pumping gas into the venturies. I I cleaned the carb with carb cleaner and air.
Re: Engine cuts out
After Daniel's reply I decided to take the carb apart, go through it one more time with carb cleaner, and blow it out again. That took care of that problem. Thanks Daniel. Now, I have two more problems. When I crank the car the idle shoots up to about 2,000 to 2,500 RPMs in the first 10 sec., stays there until I put it in gear, and drive it. Then it idles down to 850 RPMs. I believe from my reading this is correct.
Problem #1: When I took the car out for a test drive and when I come to a stop or down shift to make a turn the RPMS drop to zero and the car cuts off. The car will start right back up and idle at 850 RPMs.
Problem #2: I checked the spark plugs when I got back and the plugs coated with dry fluffy black deposits. I think this means the air fuel mixture is to rich. Today, I will clean the plugs and turn the air fuel mixture screw in a turn to see if this helps. Current settings for the air fuel mixture are 1 1/2 turns out.
