My mechanic says I need to have my stock 79 carb rebuilt but I have read that it's better to go with a new carb. like the 32/36. Now my questions are:
1)I buy most of my parts through IAP and Vicks but buying directly from weber looks to be like 100 bucks cheaper. Have any of you went that route?
2) I'm going to have my local mechanic put the new carb in, do you have any useful information to give him for the install? (I'm a total newb.LOL.)
3) What other kinds of parts am I going to have to order to have it installed correctly, I read something about needing a spacer for the carb and something about the linkage?
Thanks.

Electric Choke Weber 32/36 DFEV- Questions
Re: Electric Choke Weber 32/36 DFEV- Questions
john,
changing to the 32/36 is a complete departure from the stock '79 carburetor. there is ZERO, none, no emissions equipment considerations on the 32/36; all there is available: gas in, air in, and dizzy vacuum. if you live in an emissions test zone, you will not be able to pass; even if it is only a visual inspection. that intake manifold is gobbled up with a miriad of vac hoses designed to confuse a puzzle master; none of which will have a place to go on the new carb.
additionally, the new carb is electric choke, and the old carb is water choke. consideration needs to go to the water feed lines, how will you plug or re-route those hoses?
however, saying all that... if you have no need for concerning yourself with emissions testing, i recommend the 32/36 electric choke weber as a replacement for your stock carburetor.
the stock air cleaner most likely won't fit on the new carb without substantial modification. consider a cool looking, fun sounding "lunch box" air breather.
you will need to order a special linkage part at the same time.. i have heard that this part is becoming difficult to locate. i do not know of a supplier that automatically sends that linkage with the carburetor.
CALL your intended supplier and inquire. also, look here: http://www.piercemanifolds.com for carb, linkage, and air breather kit pricing.

Thanks for the great info mbouse! Much appreciated.
I looked at Vicks site, here http://www.vickauto.com/cgi-bin/store/30-0331.html and it says linkage included, I'm assuming thats the special linkage but I'll call him to make sure, unless someone here knows.
