Aux pulley timing

Post by mdrburchette »

Ron and I are rebuilding a 1608 and I keep hearing about the aux pulley having to be at 1 or 2 o'clock to be timed correctly. Does this apply to the 1608 or just the later model engines? When I suggested it to Ron, he had no clue what I was talking about or why it would be necessary. Evidently, it didn't matter to my other 1608.

Can't say if it will hurt for it to be out a few teeth, but it never hurts to set it accorging to a published diagram. 34 deg from vertical.

I can't find that info in any of my books. I'll let Ron know. He probably got lucky on the first rebuild.

I've got a lot of random diagrams that are very helpful that were actual Fiat publications, but most were never in any of the Factory service manuals. When I see them online, on ebay, or other forums I right click and save them to a file on my computer for just such occasions.

I line up the aux shaft with the pivot bolt for the tensioner and have never had a problem
