Ultimate Garage

Post by So Cal Mark »

each year Maserati and Architectural Digest stage a competition for the ultimate garage. Here is a link to this years entries; it's definitely an ode to rich guys, not car guys. I'll let you judge for yourselves, but most of them are so over the top I want to puke

Doesn't eveyone have a chandalier in their garage??

I thought garages where suspose to have cars in them.

I am going to cover one wall in my shop with mirrors and put down some Pergo flooring and enter next year.
Maybe I should go for the 70's look to match the car. Shag Carpet, disco ball, lava lamps, and some bean bag chairs

I feel sorry for the guy that has to mow the one with the Turf Block driveway  that has got to be a PITA!

I say we start a thread to see who has the smallest garage with the most un-usable FIAT parts in it. I'm on my way to winning that competition. :D

That house (and garage) was for sale earlier this year. I didn't follow it though to see if it sold or not. If memory serves, it was around $2 million.

It shows to still be on the market for a modest 2.3 mil. 370 Beech Street Highland Park, IL 60035

I "Estimated my monthly payment" and with $460,000 down on a 30 fixed my monthly payment would only be $10,410.

Any garage that I vote for must have a lift and not just for parking an extra Ferrari! I might be a player for the smallest garage, when I bought the house it only had a carport like the house next door. SSHHH, don't tell the building inspector, I prepainted all the siding and installed it along with the door over a weekend. I am currently looking for a house with a shop or at least room to build at least a three car garage that is tall enough for a lift. I'm only 34, but after a back surgery I'm thinking sooner or later a lift will be a must! Either that or quit working on cars and that's not going to happen, (my surgeon told me to quit working on cars and start bird watching). Ya, right after I buy a Prius and join the Sierra Club. :( My puny garage:

Trey,

I installed a lift in my garage a couple of months ago. It is a four-post parking lift designed for storage, but I also ordered the sliding jack tray so the car can be jacked up on the lift to remove the wheels for brake work, suspension, etc. It is truly amazing how much easier it is to work on your car without having to crawl around under it. Jobs that I used to dread (like exhaust work or tranny removal for clutch) are now a pleasure. Just the other day I wanted to check fluid levels in the transmission and rear diff in advance of FFO. I was able to check both (and top off the transmission, which was slightly low)that in less than 30 minutes without ever changing my clothes -- because I didn't get dirty!

At around $2k they aren't cheap. But try adding a bay to your garage to store that extra car for less than 5 times that amount. And you get the added benefit of making it much, much easier to perform maintenance work.

It's nice to roll your tool cart under the car and not crawl in and out from under it 20 times, not to mention laying on a pile of tools. I can use the racks at work on weekends, but it doesn't help my projects much, since they don't run.

I don't know fellas. I believe my garage is smaller than yours. I can't even jack the car up unless that rear is hanging outside the doors. Now that I've packed a truck load of X19 race parts in it, it's even smaller!

Good thing your hubby has that big shop for you to sneak your cars into.
