Inner timing belt cover

Post by zachmac »

Working toward changing the timing belt on my 80 FI Spider as I have no idea when it was last done. Sure enough removal of the outer yellow plastic cover reveals the inner cover in place! From what I have read that means the crank pulley has to come off, correct?

Also, the dircetions I have read mention running over the inner cover to faltten it so it can never be installed again. Is that the consensus?

I assume the drill is remove crank pulley, remove inner cover, replace crank pulley so I can use the marks BEFORE I loosen the tensioner?

Right on all counts. That's exactly what I did to my 81FI. (Although I don't remember driving over the inner cover, but it went somewhere - I don't recall exactly where). Of course, maybe someone who wants to restore theirs to concourse condition would want yours:wink:
