Shameless self-promotion

Post by kilrwail »

Thanks to Alvon for encouraging me to post this description of a book I published last winter. It is a compilation of both anecdotes about my experiences with cars over the years, as well as encouragement to the owners of high performance cars to learn how to drive them properly in the controlled environment of a race track.

It is called:
“Owning an Icon...and DRIVING it!” (Buy a Porsche and take it to the track)

As you might imagine, it’s about the fulfillment of my life-long dream of owning a Porsche 911 and a number of stories about my related experiences. But it’s also about taking advantage of the Porsche Club of America’s Driver’s Education program to learn how to drive the car at speed on race tracks. I’ve also included several anecdotes from my experience competing in road rallies and rallycross with the Motorsport Club of Ottawa. And there’s a chapter covering my 30-year ownership of a Fiat 124 Sport Spider and the wonderful friends and experiences I enjoy through FLU.

The book has 212 pages with 85 black and white photographs. It is also available in DVD format with colour photographs and 147 larger pages. The price is $22.95 (either CDN or US) including shipping anywhere. If you are interested, please e-mail me at dpimotorsports@yahoo.ca or telephone 1-866-386-3962. Thank you.

Thanks Peter! Whether it's a Porche 911 or a 124 Spider, I'm sure there are similarities that we go through in reviving these icons and getting the most out of driving them. I'm glad you got around to putting your experiences down for other people to read and reflect. I'll contact you for a copy, for sure.

Kilrwail,

As I mentioned to you before, it's good to know there are several of us out there that have an affinity for the 911 in addition to the 124 Spider. The Italians and Germans produced some incredible sports cars over the past several decades. And the 911 and 124 Spider remain two of the best that are within reach of the average enthusiast.

John - I couldn't agree more - I feel very fortunate. And the M3 is no slouch either - I've been passed by a lot of them on track :D

This doesn’t warrant its own thread, so I stole this one...

One of the FLU guys converted http://www.italiancarclub.com to a blogging site for car guys. I’m there along with another member of this forum. Check it out and add a blog if you like – it’s free.
