Help me identify my motor
Hey gang, I am truly confused on the motor I have in my project car.Ist thing...it isnt the one that came in it.The car is a early 77,built in 11/76.The casting no.s on the manifold and exaust match the 77 model year. The block...I am not sure. The large 3 is 132AC1O.I am having a tough time reading the serial no.(does it matter?),but it looks like 4343882.Manoamatt,who has been a great help with parts and advise, feels it is a 76 model.Others feel the block could be as early as 74.Would this mean the car isnt a 1800? The alternator is on the pass. side. I hesitate to order parts for a motor that I am unsure of.I need an alt.,because the one that was on there was incorrect and didnt mount up securely.Thank you for any feedback on the newly dubbed ''FrankenSpider''.

Re: Help me identify my motor
Craig, heres the problem.
132AC is a 79 or later engine (2.0), the 10 that follows doesnt make sense thought.
4343882 is an engine number that would show up around 1976.
Somehow I think you have some wrong numbers here off the block.

Re: Help me identify my motor
Ralph, here is a pix of the crank pulley.Pope those are the numbers off the side of the block, above the freeze plug next to the Spider.Denise told me those numbers wont do me any good,I need to get the no.'s from the oil filter housing? Here is a pic of the numbers I gave out. The serial/part number is above this and cant be seen in the pic. Sorry they are blurry.I am confused as to what motor to order parts for.Someone told me that maybe the p/o broke the alt. bracket and moved it the other side ,where the air pump used to be and that it is a 77 after all.

Re: Help me identify my motor
Craig,
What does the alternator mount look like on the passenger side. The 76 the alternator mount was cast as part of the block.
Or does it have a cast aluminum mount that is held to the block with two studs?
I'll get you the measurements of the 76 alternator tonight.

Re: Help me identify my motor
Matt, the lower mount for the alternator appears to be cast into the block. It is drilled for the 'big' bolt that Ralph sent me.The upper ,adjusting arm is bolted to the block. Thanks,

Re: Help me identify my motor
Looks like an early 1800 or even a 1592, I would say early 132 series motor.
Re: Help me identify my motor
Craig, check out http://www.artigue.com/wp-content/uploa ... 124_MM.pdf, and go to the section about engine identification. There should be some stamped numbers near the oil pedestal and dipstick for the engine block ID. There are casting numbers on the cylinder head that give clues about the head.
Where exactly did you find the 4343882 serial number? On the block?

Re: Help me identify my motor
Hey Alvon.I looked at the Artigue site ,but I was armed with the wrong numbers. That number I posted was on the block(which I thought was the serial number),above the number I show in the pic.I looked at the pedestal last night, but you cant see anything.I will take a dremel or wire brush to it today to see if I can get the proper no.'s.The casting numbers on the cyl. head are for a 77.
Thanks Ralph. That is where the problem is at.There are a couple opinions that it could be a 1592 block.I will have to find out before I get any further into it.The placement of the alt. on the passenger side seems to be the confusing point.I was told that no 1800 had that?

Re: Help me identify my motor
Early 1800 , 1592, 1608 & 1438 had the alternator on the passenger side.

Re: Help me identify my motor
OK ,here are the correct numbers; The engine model is 132A1C40.6 ,so it is a 1800.The serial number, which doesnt match much on my reference sheet is 0567736.Also,Mike Bouse sent me a link to a page showing how to mount a Basch alternator on the pass. side of a later model car.Looks suspiciously like what I have.So...if it is a 77 motor, that could have possibly been done to power the electronic ignition?

Re: Help me identify my motor
According to my sheet on numbers, that is either a 1.0 Yugo engine or a 23cc Lawnboy grass trimmer.
You have a 132A1.040.6 yes an 1800.
Cant help you with the 6 digit number starting with 5, doesnt make sense to the standard #ing scheme.

Re: Help me identify my motor
I got a clear look at it,and believe it to be correct. If that was a 1 instead of a zero,it would make more sense.
