Engine timing

Hello Fiat lovers. I just bought an anniversary 1981 Spyder with a bad engine. Ready to fire up the rebuilt engine but not very comfortable with the whole timing thing.
Can anyone give me some definitive info concerning engine timing? I have the cams and the crankshaft lined up with the indicator tabs but what about the the auxillary shaft. Theres a center punched dot on the auxillary shaft pulley and none of the manuals I have reference where it should line up. I do not want to deplete the already scarce parts supply and my wallett any further.

surprised no one else has replied yet.... YES that aux shaft has a definite timing mark, and yes the hole is the indicator. i am at the office, and have no reference material handy... please wait before you crank that engine. someone will throw in a technical reply real quick, most likely before i can look it up for you.

if your manuals don't give this vital piece of information, it is time to get a better manual.

turn the aux shaft until that hole points to 1 o'clock.

Peter,
I email'd you a .pdf file with the Timing Belt Replacement Helper out of the Factory Service Manual.
I cant remember where I found the entire manual (It's downloadable somewhere) but this should give you a decent idea of the timing marks.

Peter, just remember that when the valve timing is set, the dist rotor will point to number 4 plug tower in the cap, not the number one!

turn the motor at least 2 complete revolutions by hand before attempting to start it, then recheck your timing marks including the aux shaft. I line up the dot on the gear with the pivot bolt on the tensioner
