#3 intake valve

Post by roanokeSpider »

I recently had my valves replaced at a local machine shop. I got it back did the gaps .019 to .020 for the exhaust and .017 to .018 for the intake. The real problem is the 3rd intake valve it wont let the lobe cycle at first i though it was the tiny gap it had with the old shim but that wasnt the problem. I also tried taking off the exhaust side in case any of the valves where touching but that also did nothing. All this being done on a bench. What should i do? Thanks

so the cam won't turn? Sounds like the valve is stuck in the guide or the cam follower is stuck in the housing

It almost sounds like the valve stem is bent. Without the cam and valve spring, it should go up and down with little resistance. And have very littlt side to side play.

How are you supporting the head on the bench? Hopefully it is elevated so that the weight of the head is not on the valves, which could bend things and maybe cause the problem that you describe.

It moves pretty freely. The lobe only stop just short of the valve being pushed all the way down and i dont think that the guides are to blame since those are new as well.

Measure the spring and make sure it isn't binding when it is compressed. Also check that the spring is seated correctly.

Just the fact that you said that they are new means that is most likely the problem. Bent on installation or something like that.
