I haven't seen anything about this, but can the distributor be located in two different spots on an 1800?
Mine is up on the top left rear of the motor, but there appears to be a place for it on the lower right front side, too.
Is this correct? Is this a foolish newbie question?
Distributor location?
Re: Distributor location?
yes
yes
your dizzy is located in the correct place on the exhaust cam. yes, it appears that it could have been located on the crank on the driver's side. that is left over from an earlier engine design.

Re: Distributor location?
Mr. Wilson,
Hello and welcome. To further confuse the issue, some owners of later-model Spiders relocate the dizzy back to the original "block mount" location. It's cooler over on that side, away from the exhaust.
But the real reason I Replied was to respectfully suggest that you use conventional direction terminology. It's easy to see what you meant when referring to the distributor location, but when asking questions here or in another forum, "left" "right" etc. refer to orientation while you are sitting in the driver's seat. Kinda like "port" and "starboard"; doesn't matter how you are facing, those terms are unchanging. I wouldn't want you to end up repairing or replacing something unnecessarily on the wrong side of the car!

Re: Distributor location?
Oh yeah, I figured I'd get that wrong. But you guys know what I meant.
Re: Distributor location?
I thought about drilling my head for a second spark plug, Installing a second distributor and running it dragster style. But then I gotta grip on reality again. But you could do it, I bet.
Re: Distributor location?
the location of the spark plug does take some planning otherwise just stick it in the tailpipe and shoot flames at the guy behind you.
Re: Distributor location?
So this extra dizzy location is referred to as what? the Blue Flamer Hole?So Cal Mark wrote:the location of the spark plug does take some planning otherwise just stick it in the tailpipe and shoot flames at the guy behind you.
Re: Distributor location?
So...... some owners relocate the dizzy to the block mount. How hard of a job is this? I have a carbed 2.0 with the cam mounted dizzy and stock exhaust manifold. However, I have had the manifold ceramic coated to reduce heat, it still gets the dizzy and it's parts hotter than heck. If this is not a huge job I migit give it a shot. I am also thinking of moving the battery to the trunk since my 2.0 litre engine is sitting in a 72 Spider where the battery is located in the engine bay.
