My wife and I recently acquired a '72 Fiat Spider 124 w/ a single Webber carb. The car starts pretty well with the choke out even after sitting for awhile but when we drive it at low speeds the car kind of surges repeatedly until we get it up to about 40 MPH.
When I say "surges" imagine someone trying to drive a stick for the first time... you know, that kind of jerky driving motion... but not as severe as that! The surging seems to diminish completely or almost completely if I drive with the choke all the way out. At first I thought it might just be me not use to the Fiat's shifting but now I am not so sure.
Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

if you have the choke knob pulled all of the way out, virtually no air is getting through the carb. Once the engine starts you should push the choke knob partially in and gradually push it all of the way in as the engine warms up. In addition, you have throttle linkage that is bolted to the engine and firewall, causing a severe jerking motion on acceleration if the motor mount is weak or broken
