I just need some pointers as to where to look for this problem, I haven't checked much of anything, and it was fine when I brought first got it home.
Now, in the morning or whenever its below 80 degrees, the car is really hard to start. I have to pat the gas like a cold natured carb'd car to help it along sometimes.
Once you get it started though it's fine, albeit each time you start it after that it starts with a very low idle (around 500 rpms). It will climb upwards to where we have it set as it warms back up though.
Keep in mind that I have to idle it around 1200 to keep it from idling too bad right now.
I'm thinking Thermo time switch or the A.A.R? Am I entirely off here? Could it also be fuel delivery problems (trash in the lines maybe?)
I plan on doing some poking and prodding tomorrow to see if I can find some messed up parts in there, and since I'm definately not a mechanic, I need some direction as to where to look.
Car is hard to start when cold.

Re: Car is hard to start when cold.
It sounds like the cold start injector may not be firing up when you try to start it cold. This could be a clogged or bad injector, or it could be the thermo-time switch that actually turns the injector on and off. I would first remove the plug from the cold start injector and have someone attemtp to start the car while you put a test light on the plug. It should be getting juice for about 8 seconds. If you have no power at the plug, it is likely the thermo time switch. If you do have power, then remove the cold start injector, plug it back in and point it in a jar. Have someone try to start the car and see if it sprays fuel in the jar. If it doesn't, you have a bad injector.
Many idling issues are related to a bad AAR -- something else you may want to check once you sort out your starting issue.

I take it you can just put a multimeter on the cold start injector plug to see if it spikes a voltage correct?kristoj wrote:It sounds like the cold start injector may not be firing up when you try to start it cold. I haven't had a chance to check it out today, hopefully tomorrow or Wednesday I'll check the cold start system.

Re: Car is hard to start when cold.
Yes, that is correct. You should get voltage for approximately 8 seconds.
