Interesting New Type of Replacement Seat Bomber Seats?

Post by markpink »

After I have gone threw my second drivers' seat in a year. The original one was bent. The replacement one was a little bent but someone I broke it going the 900 miles to FFO and back. I can't seem to find any seats that aren't already bent and broken either locally or reasonably priced on ebay.

I found this vendor on ebay and on the web
Here is the link http://www.rodinteriors.com/bomber-seats
$295 a seat on the website.

He is selling a version called Antique Bomber Jacket Vinyl Aluminum Bomber Seat for $225 on ebay.

Any see a problem that might make these not a good choice for my 1977 spider?

thanks

don't know how comfortable those would be. Why not just get a pair of Miata, Fiero or CRX seats? Or, pull the upholstery off your seat and repair it. They can be welded and braced fairly easily, far cheaper than a pair of bomber seats

Don't go eith these! I used a pair in a bugeye sprite and talk about miserable. No rake or adjustment at all and a real pain to get properly mounted. Trust me, a brtoken Fiat seat is better!

I did quite a bit of research trying to find a racing type seat that would fit my '76 Spider. I finally ended up with a pair from A1 Performance Parts on eBay. Although I haven't installed them yet, the height and width seems to be perfect. They're a little shorter and narrower than 90% of the seats listed online as "racing type" seats. They make them this way so they'll fit the MGs, Fiats, and other small cars that the other seats won't fit in. Like I said I haven't installed them yet, but the sliders appear to match up perfectly with the floor mounts, which I couldn't believe. They are pretty much everything I wanted. The guy that runs the business is Chad Tilley who evidentally was an executive at Advance Auto Parts. He makes them himself, and can do vinyl and cloth in several color schemes. I had him make me all black cloth with black vinyl on the sides (wear areas). They look really good. I got mine for the $249.00 per PAIR plus $80.00 shipping. Although they may not be Sparco quality, they sure appear to be decent for the money. If I get a chance maybe I'll post some pics of mine in the next few days. those seats look good and the price is great. But, those types of seats look a little out of place in an otherwise stock car. Just my opinion.

That is an excellent price! I have seats from a Fiero sitting in the garage, but have decided I prefer seats with a separate headrest, in keeping with the Fiat ones. I don't suppose anyone has found substitutes that have separate headrests and a bit more lateral support than those of the Spider?

Some of the ones in his eBay store do look kind of cheesy. That's why I ordered all black. I've seen some pictures of what I consider the full sized or typical seats installed in our Fiats. They look too big, and almost like a Ken doll riding in a barbie car. These are actually about the perfect size, and after setting them in the car for a test view, look like they'll fit and go well with the car without looking tacky, even in a stock Spider....lol.

I would love to find some Fiero, Miata or Honda Seats.

Everytime, I find some on Ebay, the shipping costs are more then the seats or someone wants way too much money for seats that would fit.

I have been to a few auto shows with many part dealers and still can't seem to find a good seat. I am at the point of putting my car away for the winter now instead of around Halloween because the driver's seat is actually painful to sit in.

thanks

I'm sorry, but to my eye, nothing looks good in a fiat spider but an original fiat seat.
Racing seats are fine for race-type cars, but these things aren't really racers. Touring, maybe.

I'm in the market for seats as well, but I can't see myself getting anything other than originals, or replicas of some kind.

Here was my solution . . . . cheap and they don't look all that bad.

Brian, thanks for posting and showing the pics. To my eye, those Grand Am seats look quite appropriate, even if a little large. I'm sure I can get them locally for about the same price. I'll have to go and sit in them and see how they feel.

there are some seats on the market that are very similar to what Abarth used in the 124s, but I think they cost about 300 each. Miata seats should be plentiful, there seems to be lots of them in the wrecking yards. Seats are a little difficult to ship though. I've got some fiberglass shells I'll sell cheap, you would just have to get them covered

Mark,

Who makes those $300 seats? Is there a web site. Thanks for the offer, but rebuilding seats is not my best skill. I would rather just buy some new seats and put them on.

Thanks
