Where's Steve Been?

Post by fiasco »

Oh, you know...around.

Fiat Fiasco Fatigue got me down, and then the hot (HOT) summer kept me there. Then the foothills caught on fire, and they wouldn't let the kids have soccer practice outside because breathing suddenly became an unhealthy activity.

It's funny, because Ryan (SpiderHead) dropped by my house yesterday while I was out. My wife said that he was disappointed that I was out and about, but not driving the Fiasco (I had taker her car 'cause it has AC!). When she told me that, I had this sudden realization that driving the Fiasco every day to and from work in 100+ heat takes a lot of the joy out of the experience. When I get a chance to drive something else, I jump at it.

All that to say that tinkering with the Spider has not been at the top of my list of leisure-time activities this summer.

But, the last couple of days have been cooler, and I can feel some good convertible driving weather coming just around the bend. Which has gotten me thinking again about all my big ideas for the car. So who knows - maybe the good feelings are coming back. Maybe I'll do something about my weak spark. Maybe I'll figure out how put turn signals back on the front of the car without the bumper. Maybe I'll fab up some new dash panels to replace the ones that all the veneer is peeling off. Maybe I'll relocate the radio antenna to a somewhere that will allow me to keep the antenna on the car when I put on the hard top. Maybe I'll make some progress toward a new paint job.

Maybe I'll just change the oil and call it a day.

Good to hear from you Steve! Yep, driving the spider in the hot sun can be taxing. Haven't heard from Ryan either. How's he doing?

I'm clearing out the '76 from my driveway, so if you need anything, let me know (and come get it, please!). That goes for anyone else in the area. I'll start a separate post with pictures, tonight if I get time.

Yes, but I don't think you want it. It is a big rectangular thing that came from who-knows-where (not origianl), and it has a lot of pitting on the chrome. You can see it partially in these old photos:

Alvon,

I'd love to come up and take the whole thing off your hands. Maybe I can get Ryan to drive up with his truck and tow bar, and drag it back here. Do you think it would make the trip?

Steve,
A lot of the car has been sold (engine, tranny, seats, door panels, dash, consoles, front brake calipers, etc.). Much of it is left (The body shell, doors, trunk lid, differential, suspension, steering, wheels, etc.), though I have disassembled everything. Being disassembled, it will not roll, but could be loaded onto a trailor. Call me and I can give you details. 805-338-1767.

Hey Ace, so that's what's under the car cover in your driveway!

Ace brought the car down on Saturday and we piled it up in my driveway, then my family went out to a very enjoyable dinner with him and his wonderful wife. Hoping to put some of the body panels to use on the front end of the Fiasco, and swap out the driver's side door. May get some use out of some of the other parts, may keep some around as 'just in case' parts, and may sell some others.

Thanks Ace! Check's in the mail (or will be after I get paid) :D

It was great to see you and the family again, Steve -- and thanks for helping me clean out my driveway! I hope you can make good use of the parts.

Sorry we didn't get any time to look at your engine. It's been another busy weekend!
