24 Hours of LeMons...this weekend !!
As some of you know we have a Fiat that is entered in the LeMons race Sept.12 and 13.Denise,myself,and 2 other people are involved. The car was a donor, not running. The motor is now'fresh' with a Holley carb.Lancia exhaust with a Thrush glasspack! Car is gutted and sports a SCCA cage,Fiat guages, and Kirkey racing seat.Driveline is stock Fiat, with 14'' Kumho tires. We have installed a 18 gal. fuel cell.I will document the event with many pix.We are arriving in South Carolina tomorrow, for Fridays test day.Race is run in several stages on Sat. and Sun.We know we are underpowered compared to the V8 Mustangs and Camaros,Bimmers,etc...But we can corner with any of 'em,and its a tight track.So.....wish us luck ,we will surely need it !!

Man that sounds fun, wish I was there to watch or drive or even turn a wrench as part of the pit crew. Since it's LeMons, I have to ask: Who is the Steve McQueen of the bunch?

Re: 24 Hours of LeMons...this weekend !!
It is with the utter most regret that I am informing all of our race fans of the demise of the Dixie Chickens Fiat racecar. We had a hard time getting the car started and running so I worked most of the afternoon going through the basics, setting the static timing on the car and finding the distributor 180 degrees off. After repairing that, we tried starting the car and found the carb was starving for fuel because of a leak in a fuel line in the trunk. Once that was repaired, we started it up and heard a faint knocking sound which eventually got louder and louder. After all that work, the engine had developed a problem with the auxiliary shaft and, being a Fiat, all parts would have to be ordered. Craig finally threw in the grease towel around 9:30 last night. This morning, we covered the carcass with a car cover and cleaned the engine puke from the floor. What an incredibly disappointing day!
