Some "after" pics of the engine

Post by digitech »

Here are a few "after" shots of my engine as I complete the second rebuild. I didn't really want a red engine but that's how the block came back from the machine shop and I wasn't in the mood to repaint. The tranny was cleaned up/rebuilt by Vicks and I painted it with aluminum paint; mounts, gaskets, oil seals and throwout bearing are new.

Looking good! If your car was red, I'd say the red block would be too much, but I think it'll be just fine with a white car.

My original engine color was red, in a red spider. Yes, it was a bit much, and the reason why I used grey for the engine I have in there now. I think the red looks great for your weddng-gown white car! That's gotta be the cleanest I've seen (your pictures of the engine bay, relays, etc.). I hope you plan on keeping that clean --- not!

Interesting . . . I haven't seen a water pump and pulley combination like yours before. The ones I'm used to have a longer shaft, so the pulley is dished in the other direction.

Good catch Ace, I noticed that too. I think the pulley is installed on the pump backwards. That transmission looks awesome, engine too. The Valeo clutch cover looks different than others I've seen, where did you get it? Is it an uprated design?

Boy, that's really looking good! Are you running an oil cooler or just a remote filter?

Thanks for the observations - I'll be really embarrassed if the water pump pulley is on backwards, I'll check on it! The clutch is from IAP; I used one from them before on the first rebuild and it worked fine. I am running an oil cooler, I don't think it can hurt in Atlanta. I am dry fitting the head now and found I am missing a head to block alignment dowel if anyone has one. I will post in PW as well.

Looks great. Have an engine out of a parts car that I will be taking apart Wed. night. Hope it turns out as well as yours looks. I like the red engine block. Nice contrast.
