Where to get a tensioner for the timing belt?

Post by lordxenu »

Where do I find one? I looked around on different vendors and I'm not even sure what I'm looking for.

Looks like we're going to have to change the timing belt, I still have the cold start issue but that can wait, the timing belt looks like it's walking off the cam gears

I can see about a quarter of the drivers side cam pulley, so that means there's a bit of belt that's hanging off the pulley...I don't like that at all. So I've stopped driving the car until I can break down the top end, replace the gaskets and seals from the cam boxes up, and readjust the valves.

On that note, I should probably replace the tensioner while I'm in there, but I dunno where to get one :(

IAP should have them. They are having a sell on Saturday. :P Call them up and tell them what you want.

I see where its supposed to have timing belt tensioners, but it says they aren't available for my car.

Is it this?

I don't think it is, but I can't find a tensioner for my car on their website.

Maybe their site is bugged :?

I did a quick check of Vick's and Bruce's and they both list just the bearing. It may be that that's all you can get new.
If you need the whole thing you might have to get it from a scrap engine.

Doh! I found it.... its this thing:

I don't think I need the whole thing, I mean the car only has 62k on the odometer...I wouldn't think the entire tensioner would have disintegrated yet would it?

Thanks for the help guys! I'll put it on my wish list...got a few things I need to buy. Car is getting expensive

Although compared to what you guys have put into your spiders, I guess I'm getting out cheap, I've probably put about 200 into the car right now aside from the 2800 I spent on it.

Check out PerformanceFiat.com

They have a timing belt tensioner bearing combo for the 2000 spiders, $50. It is not a factory replacement bearing, it is smaller and guided so it uses the timing belt for an 1800 to make up for the change in diameter. I bought one but have yet to put it on so I can't give you any more information, sorry. Val has been great about answering other questions so I wouldn't hesitate to give him a call or drop an email.

Good luck.

You know, I saw that a couple of weeks ago and forgot about it. Can anyone vouch that this is a better solution because it has the guides on it?

I already have the belt, but if this is a better solution I may just go ahead and get it...I've got a bit of a shopping list here :P
