What is it
(1976 Spider, 1800)
I looked at all my manuals - exploded views online, but could not find any reference of what this is, or what goes here.
I think component on the opposite side of where I'm asking is a "reed valve"?
Sure will be glad when I get passed the point of trying to figure out what the previous owner did or was trying to do with this car - once I get all the wiring and parts back where they belong, and the car runs as it should - I'm gonna one happy person.
Thanks.
Jamie.

Re: What is it
The remainder of the EGR system attaches there. The missing piece is a pipe with a flange and the other end attaches to the intake manifold.

I don't remember seeing anything like that in the boxes of stuff in the trunk - I'll go through them again to be sure. It's probably lost in the previous owner's shed, right next to the air cleaner and timing belt cover.

Re: What is it
No luck finding that part of the EGR system in my box of parts.
Let me know Rook1, about cost and shipping of those parts if you still would like to do that.
Here are a few engine pictures showing pretty much everything I have - if you see anything else missing......
Thanks!

Re: What is it
from the looks of that exhaust manifold, you'd have a hard time connecting the egr pipe to it. Why on earth do you want to reinstall the egr system? More than likely the egr valve isn't any good. Unless you have to undergo emission testing, that is one piece of equipment that really did make the engine run poorly and cut fuel mileage

I didn't know how much of that type of thing we could "bypass" or "plug'
I'm all for not using it if I don't need it.
I'll do some research..
Thanks guys,
Jamie.

Re: What is it
Thanks all.
(I missed the Nitrous Oxide post until just a bit ago MNspiderman)
I'll get with you Rook1 - I'll look things over really good this weekend to see if I'm missing anything else that could be important.
Thanks for the generous offer!

Re: What is it
Yep you are missing some pretty important items in the cooling system. The previous owner elimenated the external thermostat. You may or may not have one in the head. I would order all new coolant hoses and get the system hooked up as per factory design. You are also missing the coolant overflow bottle that should be mounted on the firewall on the passenger side of the engine above the exhaust manifold.
When you turn the key on does the fan run all the time? Or does it only kick on while sitting in traffic?
Let me know if you want a coolant overflow bottle and the mounting bracket. I also have several good slighly used thermostats and coolant hoses.
If you want to drive the car with confidence and reliability you should seriously consider replacing the timing belt and every rubber hose on the car. Many of those rubber hoses in your engine compartment are original 33 years old.

Re: What is it

I was wondering about that blocked off part, that didn't seem right. I wonder why he wanted to do that?
The engine has never run while in my possession so I don't know about the fan. I'm getting anxious to run it but I don't want to rush it as I do know it hasn't run for at least a few years.
Think I have the electrical so I can try it. Although I just discovered that the new ignition switch I bought might be faulty as "int" and "30" make a connection with the key out. - the same connections in my old "drilled out" switch work fine (using a screwdriver as a key)
I may be in need of many of the parts that have been mentioned here - perhaps except for the EGR stuff as I just looked tonight and there is no need to block off the openings in the cam cover? it looks like that hole going through the cover doesn't actually open into the cover?
Thank you all for your patience as this is all new to me.
and thanks for all the advice on replacing hoses and belts - that'll be done for sure before it leaves the driveway (someday)
Jamie.
