Identifying a Weber carb

Post by ga.spyder »

I have been busy on my 77 project car.I have all the leaks fixed, replaced most of the hoses, got a working alternator,etc...The carb is now livable but isnt great, although the car is running pretty darn well!I pulled a Weber off a junked motor, and have dis assembled it ,cleaned it ,reassembled.I am familiar enough with the carb to rebuild it.My question..is there a number or i.d. on these .It looks like my ADFA,but I am not sure that it isnt the anemic version found on the 78-79 models. If it is a 34 ADFA,I will rebuild the one on my bench and swap it out with the one in the car.Otherwise ,I will pull and rebuild the one in the car now.Any distinguishing features that will let me know? Thanks

The carb model information should be stamped on the base of the carb main body. If its a 32ADFA the stamping will be on the carb base above the throttle plates. The venturi diameters are usually cast onto the side of the carb right on the venturi.

If its the 79-80 Weber 28/32ADHA it will have a large flying saucer on the side that is the vacuum secondary. (don't even bother with this carb, unless you have a boat you need to keep in the same spot.)

If its the 34 ADF it will look just like the stock 32ADFA, but slightly larger bores and less emissions ports. (if you found one of these carbs in a junkyard, great find! this is the one to use)

as i recall, the identifying marks are on the side of the carb that faces the cam box, purposefully making it near impossible to identify the carb while mounted on the engine.

I found the stamped marks on the one on the workbench. It is a 32 ADFA.I think I will rebuild it ,then swap it w/ the one in the car.The linkage is in much better condition than the installed carb.I figure if I screw up something on the rebuild,I can still have a running car! :D The car is running pretty well, and with the leaves already changing I will wait and do the rebuild/swap on some cold winter day.

Dang, I was going to charge you for the carb if it happened to be the more desireable one. Oh well, I'll get you another way.

Uh, oh. The flying saucer vacuum thing is from a 79-80?

Lets settle this once and for all with a pic. Which carb is this?

Is the thing cut off on the right side of the pic the flying saucer you speak of?

Hey Craig,

Here is a pic that might help you. My old ADHA (cleaned & rebuilt before I went with the single plane/34ADF)is on the left and my 34ADF is on the right.

I can send more pics if needed.

Thanks for the pix. Both of the ones I have are ADFAs.I have decided to rebuild the one on my bench, that I have cleaned up.The one in the car is working better, since I jury rigged a return spring, and played with the idle speed and mixture.I will use it until leaf season is over the way it is.Are you staying dry in your area of Atl?We have had a lot of rain but nothing compared to the floods I see on the Atl. tv stations.

Yeah, we're okay, thanks for asking. Got plenty of rain - I'm pretty close to Douglasville- but no flooding in my subdivision.
