You sure can, its quite easy and done often. no real issues, depending on what motor you had you might have to use the two motor mount and tranny mount locations that you are NOT using right now. But they are already pre installed on your vehicle.

the chassis and body are one and the same since the Spider is a unibody and doesn't have a frame. The engines and trans can be swapped

if i am going to have to use different motor mounts than the ones being used right now, can the tranny's mounts stay where they are or do they have to move too to accom. the engine. plus when i pull the engine, can i leave the tranny fully bolted to the frame or is the front half being suspended by the bell-housing of the engine and it will need to be supported? how about the wiring harnesses, everything is going to mate?

Remove the engine and transmission as a unit. In all likelihood there will be no difference in the engine and transmission housing. The transmissions are identical and the difference between an 1800 and another 1800 will be negligible. There will likely be some wiring differences due to changes in emissions controls. I would do a quick search and find the wiring diagrams for the two years and see what will be different (not much in this case). The wiring differences will be around the distributor and the carb.

no reason to pull the tranny, leave it in place but you will have to support the front of it
