This post isn't really for anyone as much as it may be for my own reading...but, as I may have mentioned when I joined the forum, I am working on renovating my parent's home after their passing and getting it ready for selling. I work at my regular job three days a week (M-W) and then three days down at the house (Th-S).
I was down there on Friday working on some various projects, mainly getting some of the outside jobs tied up before the snow starts flying.
Anyway, I took a break for lunch - hopped into the Fiat, threw the top down and went to the local Noodles. While eating my lunch and looking out the window at Sophie, I decided to expedite the finishing of the pasta and head out for a cruise before going back to work...I'm glad I did! I got out and started heading up the canyon to see some of the beautiful fall colors and came to the intersection that leads to the mortuary where my parents are buried. I decided to go pay them a visit.
I stayed for a while reflecting on the many things that they did through their lives and the many things they did for me...and in some sense are still doing for me.
After a while, I decided to finish the drive and get back to the renovations.
I saw some beautiful colors that day. I had some good 'conversations' and thoughts with my parents, and definitely enjoyed the ride.
While I miss my parents, I thank them for doing the best they could and raising me to appreciate the beauty this world has to offer.
Enjoy the week.
Lunch Break
Re: Lunch Break
Thanks for the thoughts. It reminds me that I need to pause to smell the roses. Wishing you the best with your projects.

Re: Lunch Break
Thanks for sharing a great story. I take the kids on outings all the time to teach them to appreciate the beauty of nature. It was very rewarding this weekend when Randi, my 13 year old took forever to get back in the car after viewing some breathtaking scenery on the Blue Ridge Parkway. When I asked her what she was doing, she told me she was looking at all the beauty.

Flattery will get you everywhere Mark, but it was a boy that was in her sights.

Thanks for the comments.
Glad you didn't mind my little story. I just felt compelled to write about the nice ride and the time spent smelling the roses.

Re: Lunch Break
Zeb;
I think you hit on ann intersting perspective. (At least from my POV)
My folks are, well.... to be blunt: rats. Not in the sense that they're horrible.... but more in the sense that, well; what you REALLY wanted was a BUNNY. And while, once in a while a rat can do something very cute, and even bunny-like, .... it doesn't matter how often you stroke their fur and say "nice bunny"..... eventually you're gonna rub that bald tail and realize they're still rats.
But what you hit on was some gratitude for what your parents DID do. I'm sure they were human, just like the rest of us. (well, you;re in utah... so maybe they were saints? I dunno) But you've recognized that they did a good job... and probnably the best they could do... which is about all I'm doing as a parent: the best I can. And I'm willing to give my folks the benefit of the doubt and say that they did the best they could too.
So I guess that's my way of saying "Thanks for sharing that perspective, and reminding me that it's always nicer to be grateful for what I've got, than to go on wishing for a bunny."
Now: What I REALLY wanna know is where I can get one of those gigs where I can work for 3 days a week?

I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!
