First, I gotta find a constant hot. The only one's I found was the cig. lighter which I need for accessories and the other ones for the courtesy light. What can I do to power the radio?
Now for the switched power, the old white connector for the radio has a brown wire, is that for the switched power?
I'm gonna have to post some pics of the "nice" nest of wires, so I can point out the confusion.
if i never see that nest of wires behind my radio again, i will be happy enough. those wires will be about your biggest headache when you eventually attempt to insert your new radio into the opening. there just isn't freaking enough room. before you get that far.. do what you can to move wires out of the way.
the #30 terminal on the back of the ignition switch is a constant hot(brown wire), in addition to the cigar lighter and the courtesy lamp. of course, the fuse panel is not that far away either, so unkeyed juice is mere moments away from your project. if you have performed brown wire surgery, that 10 ga wire is also a source for unswitched power.
i'd recommend against powering the full radio unswitched, and only opting for the clock to be unswitched power. but, that is a personal preference.
"Now for the switched power, the old white connector for the radio has a brown wire, is that for the switched power? " i'd never rely on a previous owner to logically and sensibly adjust any electrical wiring circuit without fully testing his/her work. I'd not answer your question above without a volt meter.
When I bought the '82 it had a crap radio. When I went to replace it I found that although the P.O. had cobbled togeather a bunch of wires, the car was factory prewired and everything I needed was there at an unused plug. Check out Brad's wiring diaghrams and hopefully it's allready there, or a few minuts with a test light. http://www.artigue.com/?page_id=41
