Wednesday, Nov 11, Sam had another surprise. Baltimore Bernie was in LA -- time for another road trip! Ron Luxmore was working near Ventura, and dropped by our house to pick up Sam, since that's where Sam's been staying for the past week. Sam's been spending a lot of time with our cat Ringo:
Sam was not too keen for freeway driving, so he opted to belt himself in the back seat for safety. Seems like he's picked up another bad habit. Wonder where he got that??
Ron and Sam picked me up from where I work, about 1 hour drive away, and then we headed to Pasadena. Traffic was smooth going, so we arrived about 1 hour early. Luck would have it that Bernie arrived an hour early, too -- being that he had a time zone callibration challenge, from Maryland to California, so we made good use of the extra hour before the rest of the crowd showed up. Here's Ron Luxmore, Bernie, and Sam.
Sam hammed it up for our waitresses, in his typical nature, which means that we were treated very special.
At the appointed time we were joined by several more that had come out to wish Bernie a Happy Birthday! (from right to left), Jim, Ron, Hal, Gary, Sam, Bernie, Mark, Steve, and myself:
Here's our waitress leading us in the birthday song, and presented Bernie with a special piece of sweet potato pie. Wonder why everybody that holds Sam can't figure out where to put that finger!
Out in the parking lot, Sam gets another chance to sit on a Fiat, this time, Gary Poage's Positano yellow '69 124 spider. Thanks for dropping in to visit, Bernie. It sure was great to see you again, and to talk about engines. Keep in touch!
Sam let us know that he's had a good sprinkling of the LA area, and it's time to think about moving on.

So, that's why that pack of cigs went so fast! You gotta watch that little bugger like a hawk.
It was great meeting you Bernie, and the evening was thoroughly enjoyable.
It's always a treat to talk to Hal about his projects (I'm always amazed by his work) and Jim's car is just about ready to come out of hiding and join us in get togethers.
Good pics Ace, thanks buddy.

Wow Bernie, it seems you get around as well as ole' Sam! Dang Alvon, I hope you didn't let that bear pick up the habit I was forced to give up. I ain't supplying him with smokes if I can't join him.

Re: Sam, and Baltimore Bernie's visit
Thanks again, guys, for the great time. A little Tech Session, a bit of Meet & Greet, a one-car Concours (really, no others need apply), some Karaoke, chicken, waffles and beer! No wonder Sam showed up
Please allow me to return the favor. Check http://www.dcfiats.org after the holidays for the 2010 schedule, and make plans to visit the Capitol in the Spring or Fall, when the weather is nice and the tourists are absent. We'll provide a Spider or an X to drive on one of the events.

Bernie, I tried to make it, but you know how that goes. I was working right there in Pasadena no Lake. I went home to put a clutch cable in my car and go back, but it turned out to be the pedal. Got it all welded up now, just need to put it in.
