I just sent a letter and some pics to the original owner of our '82. I found their name in the warranty booklet. I sure hope that they don't want to buy it back!

Now I wouldn't go that far. I've heard rumors that the young and agile could make a go at this. 8)

Heh, and I was young and agile when I owned that Spider.

There's only one thing to do. Wash your hands and face, brush your teeth, and put on your best Sunday go to meeting clothes. Then get over there and introduce yourself. Look the current owner in the eyes and tell him or her your story.
One of the following things will happen. You will either;
Get booted off of the current owners front porch
Get invited to look at you old car
Get your offer turned down ( Owner may change their mind in the future)
Your offer will be accepted
Either way you will have an answer

Would Sergeant Striker (John Wayne in Sands of Iwo Jima) stand by and wait to see if he could make contact with the current owner. Not likely soldier! He would saddle up and head right on over to the current owners position. He would hen fix bayonets and overrun that position and seize the Spider. To the victors go the spoils! :roll: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Don't hesitate. I have left messages at the home of a Spider owner and never received a response. Noticed that it was gone and saw the home owner. They advised that someone had come and knocked on the door and they sold it for $100.00
Good Luck

So, did you talk to them yet? I just received a letter back from the original owner of my '82, (I found their name in the warranty book, Googled it and sent them some pics). She was happy that the car was in good shape and in good hands. She said that they loved the car and had fond memories of it and drove it on several long trips and even in the snow!

I would think any car owner would like to hear from a previous or current owner.I think I may try that route,Trey.I have all the p/os names in a folder. In N.C. the car has emission inspections and I have all of the receipts from new.I also got a document from a lawyer re. divorce. She got the car, house ,kids, dog etc...He got to keep the Fiat, after giving her $4000.I want her lawyer!!

When I acquired my '74 Spider in 1997 (in Australia), the glovebox still had a few old title documents with addresses of former owners. I sent them a letter letting them know that their car was now in Australia, and two of them responded via email with stories of the car's history which allowed me to put a few pieces together about its condition. (Short story - it had sat in a driveway for 10 years before being shipped out to Australia, so it needed a fair bit of TLC to get it up and running again).

I haven't yet come across any of my old cars on the road, but would chase down one if I saw it just to say 'I used to own that car'... I would also consider buying my blue 124CC with the 2-litre engine and 131 diff back again if I ever came across it...

We're all sitting on pins and needles waiting to see what the new owner says. It's not the same as going up to your ex-girlfriend's new husband... :shock:
I have found some of my cars and talked to the new owners. One in particular was a green 77 Toyota Celica that I bought from my Dad for $100. It sat in the woods for over 10 years when Ron and I brought it back to life. That car was a hoot to drive and the kid that bought it obviously enjoyed the heck out of it because every time I saw it, he'd be burning rubber.

All I can do is wait for the current owner's reply. I now live 750 miles way from where the car is, so it's not like I can drive over there and knock on his door after work.
